Guy’s Buick GMC Trucks Celebrates 50 Years in West Virginia

He walked home from school then right into his dad’s Buick GMC dealership to help his father “run” the business. And, he hasn’t stopped for more than 50 years.

The devotion and hard work of Guy ‘Gary’ Chicchirichi of Guy’s Buick GMC Trucks was recognized by Buick/GMC officials April 28 with a special award and celebration for 50 years of service.

“With other dealerships, I’m used to working with teams, but Guy gets things done. He does everything. That’s a normal day for him,” said Trevor Bollhorst, Buick/GMC district sales manager.

Chicchirichi continues to be a busy man constantly fielding phone calls and talking with customers and staff.

“It’s in my blood,” said Chicchirichi, smiling.

It also seems to be in the blood of his family members as well. The business, located at 1316 N. Mildred St., has 14 employees. These employees include Gary’s son, Guy G. Chicchirichi II; Gary’s daughter, Stacey Carson; and her son and Gary’s grandson, Timothy Carson.

“It’s the whole family,”  Chicchirichi said.

The family name carries on, too.

Guy Chicchirichi, Gary’s father, started the business in 1967. Pontiac became part of the dealership in 1971. Guy’s Buick GMC Trucks received an award for 25 years as a Pontiac dealership several years ago.

Chicchirichi said his father “taught me a lot. He was a master mechanic.”

His father passed away in 2017.

Other representatives of Buick/GMC were on hand for the award presentation. They included Steven Burns, Buick/GMC zone manager, and David Ortega, GM district sales manager. Employees took a brief break for the celebration with food provided by Chicchirichi.

“We don’t give out 50-year awards very often,” Burns said. “I’ve only done three, including Guy’s. It’s all been good here even through the ups and downs.”

Chicchirichi said there had been at least three recessions since the business started.

“But we made it through. It’s all because of our customers. They’re the reason for our success. That’s what it’s all about,” Chicchirichi said.

He went on to say that customer satisfaction with the product is another reason.

“GMC is a step above any other trucks. Better quality, professional grade,” he said.

Chicchirichi said two of his most popular models are the GMC Acadia and the GMC Sierra Denali.
