Charles Barker Sells Virginia Beach Toyota Dealership to Maryland Auto Group

Charles Barker Automotive, a longtime familiar face in the Hampton Roads automotive market, has sold its third dealership in just three months.

The automotive group announced on Tuesday the sale of Charles Barker Toyota in Virginia Beach to Hall/MileOne Autogroup for an undisclosed amount.

The transaction made sense for both the buyer and seller, Barker said in an interview. MileOne, which is based in Baltimore, Maryland, bought the local Hall Automotive dealerships from longtime owner Kenneth Hall in 2006.

“They do not have Toyota in this market, so they were a perfect match,” Barker, chairman of Charles Barker Automotive, said. “I know their reputation and I know how they take care of their customers.”

In a December statement reported by The Virginian-Pilot, Barker said he chose to sell the Lexus dealerships because he doesn’t have a successor for the business.

“I’m at an age where I’m looking at what my next move is,” Barker added on Tuesday.

Barker still plans to be involved in day-to-day operations of four luxury car dealerships in Virginia Beach that sell Mercedes-Benz, Maserati, Sprinter and pre-owned European imports. Those dealerships will be run under the Charles Barker Companies name.

As part of the sale, all employees at Charles Barker Toyota, including the collision center, will retain their positions.

The Hall brand of MileOne includes 17 locations in Hampton Roads, Elizabeth City, North Carolina and Charlotte, North Carolina. The auto group sells 14 brands, including Ford, Dodge, Honda, GMC and Subaru.
